November Week 1

Kindergarten News 11/8/19

Readers Workshop: We focused on Reading Strategies this week. The students are learning to use the Reading Strategies when reading new text.
Reading Strategy: Elephant Ears

Elephant Ears says: Listen to hear if it makes sense.
Math: The students are enjoying our November Math Work Places. These games involve using Pattern Blocks to make new shapes; such as: 6 triangles can make a hexagon. The students learned how to play Shut the Box!

Next Week: r & h
Writers Workshop: We returned to working on 3 page books with a beginning, middle, and an end. The students are working hard to stretch out words and record the sounds they hear.
Science and Global Citizenship: We continued our study of force and motion.  The students worked in cooperative groups to rotate through different stations that explore how objects move and how we can affect their movement with different forces.
Special Activity: We sang with The Friendly Pirate on Wednesday afternoon!
Guidance: We learned that feelings can change. We learned that friends can feel the same or different about things that are important to us. The students loved role playing with Mrs. Ferguson - The Queen of Feelings! We practiced using Kelso's Wheel to compromise and solve small problems.

Hot Potato
*All of the students sit in a circle
*Students work together to pass the Hot Potato around the circle
*Everyone counts as the children pass the potato
*When the counting reaches a certain number between 10-20, the teacher says, “Hot Potato!”
*The person holding the potato is out and gets to pick the new teen number 
*The game continues until only one person is left holding the potato
*Everyone says: Good Game!
