September Week 1

Kindergarten News 9/6/19

Greeting: Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
Activity: Freeze Dance
Muscle Words: I & a
Readers Workshop: We focused on learning about procedures and routines.  We read different books each day which emphasized following patterns and being good listeners during story time.  The students also practiced using the various play and work areas around our classroom.
Snack: Please send your child with a fork/spoon from home - if needed - for snack time.
Math: We worked on the numbers 0-5.  We learned rhymes for each of the numbers, practiced writing the numerals, and made different hand patterns for each number.  For example: 1+3=4 and 2+2=4. We also read many stories related to each number.
Specials: Please have your child wear sneakers on P.E. days: Tuesdays & Thursdays.
Fundations & Fine Motor Stations:
*Rolling and cutting playdough with scissors
*Cutting papers following different lines and shapes
*Stringing beads

*Sewing Cards
Writers Workshop: We discussed how we can draw interesting pictures to help tell a story.  The students learned how to use Drawing Cards and follow the steps to help them draw many different things. We also used dry erase boards and markers.
Science and Global Citizenship: We worked on our hopes and dreams and created our class rules:
Be safe. Be kind. Try hard.
We also learned the Habit of Mind: Managing Impulsivity.
A Look Ahead:
*Scholastic Book Club Orders are due: Tuesday, September 10th. Our Class Activation Code - MLYQM
*The children will have a Guest Teacher (Substitute) on September 12th for the afternoon.
*Our first Celebration of Learners (C.O.L.) will take place on Friday, September 27th at 8:10am in the gym.  Families are invited to join us! Please sign in at the office when you arrive at school.
